Cathedral Beach, North Island, New Zealand

I moved the mouth of Cathedral Cave to bring it nearer to one of the picturesque rock formations. This kind of this is why I find drawing better than taking photographs.
Thos was an interesting beach- we saw a wedding and a streaker.

Sketches from a Maori haka

Not very good unfortunately- the movement was  much less repetitive than normal dancing

Kiwi, New Zealand

We didn't see kiwi in the wild-these were in Napier aquarium. They are such cool little birds. They would be great to animate- lots of squash and stretch. They usually double over pecking at the ground but their full height is about a couple of feet- which is a bit surprising.

Roturua, New Zealand

Hot springs at Roturua. These were behind our campsite, which offered heated tent pitches, thermal hot tubs, a hot water beach and a geothermal oven. The bright orange and green in the water are mineral salts and the algae that feed on them. This is one of my first tentative attempts at drawing with coloured pens- t's just not practical to paint everywhere on holiday.

Mount Cook- the view from our cabin

Moleskin sketchbook paper doesn't take watercolour as well as I thought it would. Treated myself to one especially for this trip but paint bleeds through the paper a little and it's already yellowing- my cheapo sketchbooks were better. Winsor & Newton travel paintbox still fab though- would recommend buying from cass arts chain in London where it's heavily discounted.
