Drawing at the British Museum 2

These guys are from Cyprus, they are statues of worshippers from temples which might be why they look more cheerful that the average Greek god or Roman emperor. The idea was that if you had a statues of yourself carved and put it in the temple it worshipped on your behalf 24 hours a day. There were three or four distinct styles but I thought I could see a little bit of the owner's personality in each one- and almost all had very impressive beards.
Some more faces , this time from Mexico. Grotesque, but slightly cartoonish. I think that you could turn the monkey and the conehead character above him on the left into a Ren and Stimpy style trippy animated series quite nicely.

The train on the way home-entirely because I wanted to fill more pages of my sketchbook during this visit to London that on my last visit, when I went to the V and A.

Sketching the British Museum

Sketching at the British Museum, this time concentrating on the environment rather than the tourists or the exhibits. There is so much stuff in there picking and choosing among the exhibits is difficult.

As feet are supposed to be difficult to draw well Greek and Roman statues are good models to copy. This picture started off as a straightforward study but I drew in the  background because I liked the tourist with crazy hair. These feet are slightly stylised-look at all the angles in the toes.

The "Life and Death" gallery. Was quite calculating about this sketch- moving people around the help the composition and changing what was in the display cases according to how recognisable it was- the dogsled at the top right was actually in the next case along, out of the picture view, but it was cool to draw so went in.

Circus poster commission

This is a recent commission- a custom vintage style circus poster which I drew the bike sketches for reference. I like the colour scheme, very retro.

Coventry roadworks

I had a hard time liking Coventry when I started working here, which is partly why I started sketching there over the summer. I can't help but like something if I spend time drawing it. I've learnt some interesting local history on the way too, but so far I've concentrated on the more scenic parts.  Which is a bit misleading. Here's a more typical street scene, about 100 m from where I work. Note scenic road works and 1950s concrete buildings. The building at the centre back is the courthouse.

Indian wedding invitation comic

This is a comic which will be used for a wedding invitation. I tried out a new inking method. It cuts time, which means I can spend more time on the drawing and colouring -hopefully leading to cooler looking artwork.
