Two Thousand and Fourteen Project: Taiji Cove

I took part in the Two Thousand and Fourteen project a few days ago.

Circus poster commission

This is a recent commission- a custom vintage style circus poster which I drew the bike sketches for reference. I like the colour scheme, very retro.

Indian wedding invitation comic

This is a comic which will be used for a wedding invitation. I tried out a new inking method. It cuts time, which means I can spend more time on the drawing and colouring -hopefully leading to cooler looking artwork.

Coloured version of honeymoon comic

I'm getting a bit behind on this sketchblog. I built up a nice stack of sketches over the summer but the autumn weather is too horrible to sketch outside and work has been crazy lately. Still, have a coloured version of the honeymoon gift comic I sketched.

Custom comic page sketch

I'm working on another custom comic about a honeymoon in South East Asia - here's the storyboard

A sample piece I drew for a pitch a while ago, for game show contestants in the style of stained glass windows, and the reference picture on the left. I didn't win the job. If I had I would have has less that two days to draw and colour at least 10 of these while working full time, so maybe it was for the best.

New job- and old graphic design

I've recently moved to a new job- working for the Media department at Coventry university. This is one of the last graphic design jobs I designed for my old college in Norwich.

Drabblecast illustration

An illustration for episode 238 of the Drabblecast by Nnedi Okorafor

The colours and the tree frog worked OK. Not too pleased with the figures as I found it difficult to give them enough detail , but I wanted the main focus on the forest rather than the characters. Annoying.

lamb

I've been moving house, so everything has been moved on to the back burner, but here's a picture of a lamb I did for work. They already have some vector artwork of different animals, so I tried to make it match. It's not detailed enough for me-and still too detailed to match the original style!

I've moved further into graphic design since I've been at my current job. It's given me a reason to brush up on Illustrator. Here's some work I've done in the last few months

Teamwork Illustration

This illustration is for Murky Depths issue 16, Teamwork by Jonathan Pinnock. When I tweaked the final jpeg file I noticed how the shapes in the framing panels mirror each other. I wish I'd planned that.

Vet illustrations Mark 2

The Vet School book I illustrated way back when wanted a new cover design for a reprint. Here it is.

My show

I'm pretty busy getting ready for this at the moment. I'm going to show 12/13 pieces and it's a mixture of digital prints like the picture above and original sketches from the Shetlands and Norfolk. Most of the work has been posted here in some form or other, including the chickens on my title picture.

Unfortunately I drew this illustration way too big and had to crop it quite radically. You can see the final version on their website, which you should check out anyway because it's amazing.

They didn't like the brain. Or the couch. Considering having the brain floating in a jar. With a label marked "Really Insane"

Another how-to university book. I really like the brain in the title, but I have a feeling they might end up using the alternative version, a couch.

I did this illustration for a story my sister was entering into a competition . It would have been better if I'd had more than a day.
