Trust in the Snow (woot!)

I have FINALLY FINISHED Trust in the Snow, a comic written by John Gunningham for the Christian comic anthology Parable 2, edited by Cow and Buffalo's Mike Maihack.

I'm really happy with it, it's taken me over a year. I should be cracking open a bottle of champagne as I write these words.

The main character is a man with a mysterious past and quixotic magical powers. He is compelled to wander, performing great acts of kindness to those that deserve it and teaching or punishing those who do not.

I haven't drawn a fantasy story since my debut in online comics, about nine years ago.

Unfortunately I can't post it on this blog: it hasn't been published yet. The original publishing deal sank due to the recession and we haven't found another publisher who is willing to take on a niche of a niche market publication like Parable yet.

My sister won a free safari in South Africa last year and v. kindly invited me along (it's a long story)It was booked for this September. Here are some sketches of the great hotel we stayed in. The bottom picture is the view from the pool.I have never, ever stayed anywhere this good before.

We negotiated with the holiday firm and they agreed to let us stay an extra week so we could go to Capetown, a trip we paid for ourself.

After we'd gotten settled in the hotel, we went out in the truck to spot some animals.

My sister took some pretty sweet pictures (the bottom one is shark cage diving, in Capetown. I had to put it in even though it gives the sharks a raw deal. It took the whole of one three hour trip to get a single picture of a shark with it's mouth open)

More safari....aand on to Capetown, where I didn't do much drawing (too busy) The penguins were in the aquarium , though we did see wild ones.

Back to work now *moan*

I was pretty happy with these illustrations- untill the editor got back to me explaining that he wanted the man on the gurney being defibrillated, not the woman on the operating table.
