More lunchtime sketching in the Herbert Gallery. I bound my sketchbooks a while ago and date marked them. I'm only 10 pages into the "2012/13" book and am feeling a bit of pressure to fill it up by the end of the year. After that I'll likely have to buy a couple of new ones as an exciting trip might be on the cards. More news later!

I thought I would have to take some students down to London today, so took my sketching stuff into work. Turned out that I wasn't needed, so I did some drawing in my lunch break.
I work in Coventry and this is the famously bombed out old cathedral. The spire's not that wonky in real life. Coventry was flattened by the Luftwaffe in 1940, and then by the town planners shortly after, but the old buildings are lovely pinky sandstone and some gorgeous old buildings are surrounded by ringroad and one of the ugliest shopping streets in the UK
The statue in the foreground is called Reconciliation.
One of the other best things about Coventry is The Noodle Bar.

(I saw a swimming grass snake in the canal. Apparently this is quite common. From the size, maybe a female. I thought this was pretty cool, but perhaps should not have pointed it out with great enthusiasm to the lady walking behind me, who freaked out)
This year the field's planted with oilseed rape instead of wheat, and it must be a good year for nettles because last year I was able to sit under the tree not behind it. Those nettles are over 4 foot tall.

Vet school- New Zealand style at my sister's practice in Invercargill.
She's currently three months into an expat job stitching up "pig-dogs". Which are apparently dogs used to hunt wild pigs, not the mutant monstrosities which were the first things to come to mind over a bad Skype connection.
